International FAQs

Where is Heidelberg University located?
Heidelberg University is located in Tiffin, Ohio in the United States of America. Not to be confused with the University of Heidelberg in Germany, we are a separate and distinct university, although we share some exchange and study abroad programs with the University of Heidelberg in Germany.

Should I apply as an international or domestic student?
Your citizenship determines whether you apply as an international or a domesitc student, not where you live. You are an international student if you are:

  • a foreign national living outside of the U.S., OR
  • a foreign national living in the U.S. who is neither a U.S. Citizen nor a Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR with a green-card).

If you are an LPR or Citizen of the U.S. living overseas, you are considered a domestic student when applying for admission, federal financial aid, and Heidelberg University scholarships and grants. If you have lived in the U.S. the majority of your life, but have an undocumented or pending U.S. citizenship status, you will also need to apply as a domestic student.

If you are uncertain of your legal status, please contact the Office of Admissions at 419-448-2335 or via Skype at Heidelberginternational.

How do I apply?
Heidelberg University uses one application for all Undergraduate international students and another application for Graduate international students. The application and admission information for each type of student is found at the links below:

Amnesty International founder dead at 83

by Zanesville

Peter Benenson, who founded Amnesty International in 1961 and helped shape civil society, died Friday at the age of 83 from pneumonia, said Amnesty spokesman Brendan Paddy.
The catalyst for Amnesty came from Benenson's frustration over a matter dealing with two Portuguese students who were sentenced in 1961 to seven years' imprisonment for publicly drinking a toast to liberty in a Lisbon café. He responded by writing an article in The Observer newspaper called, 'The Forgotten Prisoners', appealing for the release of the jailed students. The article was picked up by a dozen other newspapers and ignited a tremendous write-in campaign that lead to their release

You can do it

by GermanTeacher

There are some English speaking programs at a few German universities. Some are designed for foreign students, some are business programs conducted entirely in English.
It is also possible to take immersion language courses and get involved this way.
If your goal is to study in Europe and not in Germany specifically, look elsewhere. If you have your heart set on Germany, you can find out about these programs through the foreign language department or international program division of your nearest university.
